Crafty Time!

My daughter loves it when it’s time to get crafty with mom!  For this layout I kept that palette muted, and added some Want2Scrap™ pearls to make it really beautiful.  You can see more about it on the Want2Scrap Blog HERE.

3 Friend Pile Up

Every summer, we try to go at least once to let the kids play in the fountains at Purdue University.  This pose is one I try to get a shot of every year.  Man, those kiddos seem to just get bigger and bigger. Smile

You Hug Me…

Coming to you a little late from the Color Room Palette #114, this layout I created a week or so ago.  Monochromatics have never challenged me so much!  In the end though, it was worth the effort to sort this one out.

Here’s my take. The gold is there, really… but I used a metallic and it photographed kind of dull.

The large traced letters were inspired by a layout I found on Pinterest from Janna Werner (the girl has mega talent!)

Interrupting the Usual Programming…

Today, I decided it would be fun to play “Food Blogger” for a few minutes.  This may never happen again, so pay attention.  I have recently ventured into the world of grilled fruit, and tonight I hit the jackpot.  Dinner contained 6 different fruits and veggies, did not heat up the house at all, was ready in 30 minutes, and was delicious.  Score!

P6180035

The main dish was prepared by slicing a green pepper, an onion, and the first zucchini from our garden this summer. I just sliced them all up, added a pound of smoked sausage in 1” chunks, and put it on the grill with some foil.  No seasoning or oil needed- the meat does all that for you.  Yum!  (don’t judge me for using smoked sausage… keep in mind the 30 minute part of this meal!).

For the fruit, just chunk it up, and put on a foil sheet.  I used fresh pineapple (1 small one), strawberries (1 lb), and peaches (2 whole).  Don’t cut it small, this works best with chunks.

P6180029

After your fruit is chunked (I like using that word!), put about 2T of honey in a small bowl (no need to measure, just eyeball it).

P6180030

Add 1T of lemon juice, to the bowl, and mix it up.

P6180031

Drizzle your glaze on the fruit, and use your (clean) hands to toss it around to coat.  Then, sprinkle it with black pepper (freshly ground if you have it, obviously, I don’t.  Don’t hate).

P6180032

Put it on the grill (right next to the veggies is fine, though I’d start the veg first while you’re chunking the fruit. (I said it again.  Like I said, don’t hate.)

P6180033

I put the grill at about 250 degrees.  The veggies and meat get about 25 minutes with 2 stirs, and the fruit gets about 15 minutes with 1 stir.

Enjoy!  If you try it, let me know what you think.  I had 4 big thumbs-up here tonight!

Bubbles Within Bubbles

Hi everyone!  Thanks for popping by today. It’s my birthday, and I’m headed off to make myself a birthday cheesecake (This one), but I had to take a moment to share my newest Want2Scrap Layout.  It’s a photo of my son enjoying one of his birthday presents.

You can read more about that here:

A Little Bubble Joy

My now 5-year-old got a new bubble blower for his birthday (more on that next week), and my daughter was using it for the first time when I captured this photo.  It’s raw, unfocused, and completely spontaneous, which is why I love it so much.  It captured JOY, a hard thing to do from behind the camera.
I saw the new Crate Paper Color Challenge at the same time I was editing these photos, and immediately thought of the two as a perfect pairing.  After all, NO ONE loves pink more then the girl in the photo.  Smile
Here’s the inspiration board:

And here’s my take, using Crate Paper Products of course!

4 A Moment of Peace

My daughter, the summer she was 4, liked to pull the wagon around to the front of the house. She would chase off her brother, then sit under the tree for long periods of time. It was her way of finding a few moments of peace and quiet. She also met quite a few of the neighbors during that time, as they would come over and speak with her.  I used The Color Room Palette #113 for this layout.

Here is my take.  Lots of paint and mist on this one!

Careful Exploration

One of the traits I love to see in my kids is the art of observation.  I love it when they take the time to slow down, and watch something, to take it apart, to observe it long enough to see how it works, what it’s made of, and what they can use it for.  That’s what was happening in these photos.  My son, on his 5th birthday, opened his present (a frog habitat) and spent quite a while just exploring every angle of it.

I used Want2Scrap products here, and this was the first time I have covered a shape with acrylic paint without starting with a layer of gesso.  I love how it took the color!  it’s didn’t sink in and darken like with other chipboards.  The color sent on smoothly, and stayed smooth while it dried.  Even the nice crisp edges of this chipboard weren’t altered by the paint!  Love.

I added in some Mixed Media tags that I created with a variety of templates and mediums.  I like the artsy detail they add!
