She’s Turning 8!

I have mixed feelings about birthday layouts.  I hate themed layouts, but I really want to have special pages of my kids special days.  When I saw this collaboration from Glitz and Echo Park, I was delighted that there was a birthday collection that wasn’t too “little kid” for my 8 year old.  I love how this page turned out too!

Sick 3 Days…

Shortly after we moved, Elijah got an double ear infection.  It was a challenge trying to get him to the doctor and navigate an unfamiliar medical system, but we made it, and he recovered after a week on antibiotics.

Poor kid was pretty miserable.  I was thankful it was not a contagious illness.  Lesson for mom: no swimming right before airline travel!

Day 1 of 7

I haven’t said a whole lot here on this blog, but our family moved to Eastern Europe over the summer.  In order to get everything processed correctly for our visas, we will be making several trips to Greece.  When all is said and done, we will have spent roughly a week in the beautiful city of Thessaloniki.  This layout uses some of the photos from that amazing first day.

My 2 Loves

I’m back to scrapping, this time from Sofia.  :)  Here’s a layout to get the blog back up and rolling.  It’s from a few months ago, but I never got it posted before we moved.

I used some Molding Paste and a template from the Crafter’s Workshop for the background. Love!

Doing “Reshersh”

We recently had a school day that involved some fairly in=depth study of the planets.  My kids requested the topic, and then spent nearly 3 hours watching videos, making paper plate planet models, and, as Elijah called it, “Doing reshersh.”  It was a completely awesome morning in every way.  I love watching my kiddos soak up information.

This is the Dear Lizzy Neapolitan Collection- and it could not have been more perfect for this photo.  A little paint, some mist droplets, and layers.  Sweet!

Thanks for looking!

Peek @ Boo

Another layout for Want2Scrap to share today, and this one features the color of the month- green!  My son’s nickname is Boo, hence the cheesy but irresistible title for this layout:

Painted Face

My daughter loves having her face painted!  This particular flower didn’t last long, though.  She smeared it just after I took this photo.  Oh, well, there will be more flowers.  Smile

To give the Want2Scrap™ letters the watercolored look, I coated them first with gesso, then acrylic paint.  Once they were dry, I dripped some Shimmerz Spritz on them and blew it around with my heat gun until it dried.  Lovely!

Watching the Welder

I’m finally back at the craft table after nearly a month of illness!  Yeah!  This project is one I created this week for Want2Scrap.  I used some Sakura goodies to, as well as a pile of paper from the old scrap pile.

welder

I started by dusting the paper with Sakura’s Jewel Effect Pearl Powder in Citrine.  It left a "dusty look on the background, which is just what I wanted for this layout.  After all, welding and sanding are very dirty things!  I also dry rubbed a bit of the Pearl Powder on the Nestaboard behind the “75”, giving it just a hint of color.

I used the Nestaboard as a photo mat, but first I dotted it with #D Crystal Lacquer from Sakura, let it dry, then misted over it.  This technique added loads of texture to my layout!

Thanks for coming by!  You can check out Want2Scrap goodies HERE and Sakura Supplies HERE.

Moments

A few days ago, I had a new post up on the Want2Scrap blog, featuring this layout I created using a photo I love.  While not technically perfect, this shot of my daughter looking at my Project Life album with her grandma and great aunt is precious to me.  I combined some fun, retro Nikki Sivils with Lovely Want2Scrap goodness to create this page.

You Hug Me…

Coming to you a little late from the Color Room Palette #114, this layout I created a week or so ago.  Monochromatics have never challenged me so much!  In the end though, it was worth the effort to sort this one out.

Here’s my take. The gold is there, really… but I used a metallic and it photographed kind of dull.

The large traced letters were inspired by a layout I found on Pinterest from Janna Werner (the girl has mega talent!)

4 A Moment of Peace

My daughter, the summer she was 4, liked to pull the wagon around to the front of the house. She would chase off her brother, then sit under the tree for long periods of time. It was her way of finding a few moments of peace and quiet. She also met quite a few of the neighbors during that time, as they would come over and speak with her.  I used The Color Room Palette #113 for this layout.

Here is my take.  Lots of paint and mist on this one!

Careful Exploration

One of the traits I love to see in my kids is the art of observation.  I love it when they take the time to slow down, and watch something, to take it apart, to observe it long enough to see how it works, what it’s made of, and what they can use it for.  That’s what was happening in these photos.  My son, on his 5th birthday, opened his present (a frog habitat) and spent quite a while just exploring every angle of it.

I used Want2Scrap products here, and this was the first time I have covered a shape with acrylic paint without starting with a layer of gesso.  I love how it took the color!  it’s didn’t sink in and darken like with other chipboards.  The color sent on smoothly, and stayed smooth while it dried.  Even the nice crisp edges of this chipboard weren’t altered by the paint!  Love.

I added in some Mixed Media tags that I created with a variety of templates and mediums.  I like the artsy detail they add!
